How to Apply for a Psychological Testing Technician Registration

Step 1: GATHER APPLICATION MATERIALS

  1. TRAINING AND EDUCATION VERIFICATION FORM(S)
    • Obtain a Psychological Testing Technician Training and Education Verification form completed by a licensed psychologist or a registered psychological testing technician.
    • A separate verification form is to be completed by each licensed psychologist or registered psychological testing technician verifying the training and education.
    • Attach a single PDF file for all completed form(s) to the online application.
  2. SUPERVISOR AND WORK INFORMATION
    • Obtain the license number and contact information of your supervisor.
    • Obtain the organization name and street address where testing services will be provided.
    • Enter the above information on the online application as instructed.
  3. FINGERPRINTS
    • Complete the Board's Request for Live Scan Services form and take it to a Live Scan site to submit fingerprints to Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for criminal history background check. See the Fingerprint Procedures page for more information.
    • After submission of fingerprints through Live Scan, attach a copy of the Request for Live Scan Services as a PDF file to the online application.

Out-of-state Applicants:

  • Applicants outside of the State of California must be printed on a fingerprint hard card (FD-258).
  • To request fingerprint hard cards for an application, please contact the Board at boplicensing@dca.ca.gov and provide your name and mailing address for the hard cards and instructions to be mailed to you.
  • Mail completed fingerprint hard cards to the Board as instructed after submitting an online application.

Step 2: ONLINE APPLICATION

Note: Application submitted without the required fee will not be assigned or processed.

Step 3: SUBMIT PROOF OF EDUCATION QUALIFICATION

OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT(S)

  • Official transcript(s) for the qualifying degree must be sent directly by the institution to the Board. Electronic official transcript(s) are acceptable and must be sent to boplicensing@dca.ca.gov
  • Application based on proof of current enrollment in a graduate degree program must also include a verification letter from the Registrar to be sent to boplicensing@dca.ca.gov directly. The letter should include the following:
    • Name of the applicant
    • Enrollment status and date
    • Degree type, major, and, if applicable, the field of specialization

Step 4: TO REGISTER WITH MORE THAN ONE SUPERVISOR(S)

ADD ADDITIONAL SUPERVISOR(S) ONLINE

  • If registering with more than one supervisor, complete the Psychological Testing Technician Add or Change a Supervisor Application through BreEZe for each additional supervisor.
  • There is no fee to add an additional supervisor.
  • Approval from the Board is required prior to working under any additional supervisor(s).

Step 5: ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND REVIEW

REVIEW PHASE

  • The Board will send an acknowledgment of receipt via email after an application and application materials (e.g., official transcript) are received.
  • Complete application will be assigned and placed into a processing queue for review.
  • A licensing analyst will review the application and supporting documentation and notify of status via email after the review is complete.

Step 6: REGISTRATION APPLICATION APPROVAL OR DENIAL

APPROVAL

  • The Board will contact the applicant via email when a psychological testing technician registration is approved.

DENIAL

  • The Board will contact the applicant via email or certified mail if an application is denied.
