Fingerprint Procedures
The Board of Psychology requires both a Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) criminal history background check on all licensees, registrants and applicants for licensure or registration, and licensees that have not completed this requirement.
"Live Scan" is a system for the electronic submission of fingerprints through the DOJ. The process requires applicants to go to a Live Scan site for fingerprint scanning services. A complete list of the Live Scan sites can be found on the DOJ Applicant Live Scan website.
Instructions:
- Take a completed "Request for Live Scan Service" form (three identical pages) to a Live Scan site. Fingerprint information will not be submitted to the DOJ and FBI by the Live Scan site without this form.
- The Live Scan operator will take the first of the three pages of the request form. It is the applicant's responsibility to send the Board one of the pages of the request along with the licensing or registration application so the Board will have record that the fingerprints have been scanned. The remaining page is the applicant's copy.
- The “Live Scan process” is currently only available within the State of California. If you reside outside of the State of California, you must use the "hard card" fingerprint method. To request fingerprint hard cards, please contact the Board at bopmail@dca.ca.gov.
