Requirement and Implementation
The Examination of Professional Practice of Psychology (EPPP) is the United States and Canada licensure exam for psychologists. Currently, applicants for psychologist licensure in California is required to take and pass the EPPP, which is a knowledge–based test. This knowledge–based portion will be described as EPPP Part 1 beginning on January 1, 2026. The Association of State and Provincial Psychology (ASPPP) developed a skill–based portion of the exam known as EPPP Part 2 and decided to make the EPPP a two–part exam, which becomes effective on January 1, 2026.
The Board is working on the regulation package in preparation to implement the two–part (EPPP), which becomes effective on January 1, 2026. The proposed regulatory texts as approved by the Board at their 2023 May Board meeting can be referenced in the following link:
